Who We Are

A YEAR IN REVIEW AMERICAN LEGION POST 121 - 2020

The ability to adapt to challenges is ingrained in those who have served in the military. While Covid-19 brought a major 2020 challenge to our Post, the limitations it imposed did not bring a halt to our commitment to veterans, youth, and the broader community that we serve. Thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of our members as well as area friends, we were able to not just survive but to thrive. A few highlights are below.

✪ Provided military rites at 22 veteran funerals

✪ Placed Memorial Day flags at area cemeteries

✪ Presented Memorial Day colors, rifle salute, and taps at area cemeteries

✪ Presented Veterans Day colors, rifle salute, and taps at all local schools

✪ Delivered fruit baskets to “shut-in” veterans on Veterans Day

✪ Conducted official flag raisings at River Falls Veterans Park

✪ Distributed more than $30,000 to various causes including:

✪ Veterans in need and their families

✪ Scholarships

✪ School and youth programs

✪ Funding for extracurricular activities for youth who could otherwise not participate

✪ School backpack program

✪ Big Brothers/Big Sisters

✪ Christmas gifts for five veteran families with eight children

✪ State level Americanism programs

✪ Sponsored 3 blood drives, collecting 521 units of blood from 486 donors

✪ Presented school medal awards to 4 students

✪ Sponsored legion junior and senior baseball teams

✪ Sponsored local cub scout pack

✪ Provided source of walkers and wheelchairs for those in need

✪ Attained all-time high in membership for the 5th year in a row

Knowing that the pandemic would limit our Post’s ability to use many traditional funding activities, we established a “100 from 100” program, encouraging members to voluntarily donate $100 each with a goal of $10,000. Not only did our members step forward, but several non-members from the community did so as well. And special appreciation goes to the local “Power of 100 Women” group who selected Post 121 as a recipient of their 2020 contributions. Thank you all!
